The Vishansar Lake is an alpine high altitude oligotrophic lake situated in the vicinity of Sonamarg at an elevation of 3710 metres. It has a maximum length of 1 kilometre and maximum width of 0.6 kilometres. Vishansar in Hindi means the lake of Vishnu is home to many types of fishes among which is the brown trout.

How to Reach

By Air

The nearest airport is Srinagar Airport. From the airport, it's a three-hour drive to Sonamarg, from where you can start your trek. .

By Train

The nearest railway station is Katra, around 296 km from Sonamarg, or Jammu railway station. From either station, you can hire a taxi or use local transport to reach Sonamarg.

By Road

You can reach Sonamarg by road via Srinagar using buses or taxis. The road is well-connected, and the scenic drive adds to the experience.

The best time to visit Vishansar Lake is during the summer months, from June to September. During this period, the weather is mild, the snow has melted, and the lake reveals its stunning blue and green hues.
