Overview
Sarband Lake, located near New Theed and about 20km from Srinagar city center, is a well-known tourist attraction and the gateway to Dachigam National Park, serving as a base for trekking to Mahadev Mountain. It's also a source of drinking water for Srinagar, fed by Marsar Lake and Dachigam Nallah.

How to Reach
By Air
Nearest Airport: Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (Srinagar Airport) (~15 km from the Gurudwara). From the airport, take a taxi, cab, or auto-rickshaw (30–40 minutes ride). .
By Train
The nearest railway station is Srinagar Railway Station (Approx. 25 km away). From there, you can take a taxi, cab, or bus to reach Sarband Lake. If traveling from other cities, the closest major railway station is Jammu Tawi Railway Station (Approx. 270 km). From Jammu, you can take a bus or taxi to Srinagar (around 6-7 hours).
By Road
From Srinagar City: Sarband Lake is about 15 km from Lal Chowk, the city center. You can take a private taxi, auto-rickshaw, or local bus towards New Theed, Harwan. The route passes through Boulevard Road, Dal Lake, and Harwan Garden, offering scenic views.

The lake was built as a water reservoir during the Mughal period to supply water to the famous Shalimar Bagh and other Mughal gardens.It was an integral part of the ancient water canal system that brought fresh water from the nearby Dachigam forests.During British rule, the lake continued to be a primary water source for Srinagar.Over time, the area developed as a scenic picnic and tourist spot, attracting visitors for its tranquil beauty and historical significance. Today, Sarband Lake is a peaceful getaway near Srinagar, offering breathtaking views of the Zabarwan Mountains and Harwan Valley. The lake is still used for water storage and irrigation and is a popular tourist destination for those seeking nature, history, and serenity.
