Baramulla
Overview
Founded in 1891, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Baramulla is the oldest Catholic church in Kashmir. It was established by Jesuit missionaries and became a center for education and social services, including the renowned St. Joseph’s School. The church gained historical significance when it was attacked during the 1947 tribal invasion, leading to the tragic killing of several nuns and priests. Despite challenges, it remains an important place of worship and a symbol of faith in the region.
