Spring (March–May)
Early spring still carries traces of winter with lingering snow, but temperatures gradually rise. The landscape begins to thaw, revealing rugged alpine beauty and fresh greenery. Daytime temperatures typically hover near freezing initially, rising to around 10°C by late spring. .
Summer (June–August)
This is the most popular time to visit. Daytime temperatures are mild, generally between 10°C and 20°C, with clear skies and comfortable weather ideal for trekking and enjoying panoramic mountain views. Nights can be noticeably cooler. .
Autumn (September–November)
The weather turns crisp and cool. Autumn offers clear skies and a stunning display of changing colors in the landscape. Temperatures begin to drop, and toward the end of the season, there’s a chance of early snowfall.
Winter (December–February)
Winter at Sinthan Top is harsh and extreme, with heavy snowfall, strong winds, and sub-freezing temperatures. The area often becomes inaccessible due to deep snow, making travel and outdoor activities challenging.
How to Reach
By Air
The nearest airport is Srinagar International Airport, located about 130 km from Sinthan Top. From the airport, tourists can hire taxis or cabs to reach the destination. The journey takes around 4-5 hours via the Anantnag-Kokernag route. .
By Train
The nearest railway station is Anantnag Railway Station, about 80 km away. From the station, taxis or shared cabs can be hired for the 2-3 hour drive to Sinthan Top.
By Road
Sinthan Top is accessible via the NH-244 highway, which connects Srinagar, Anantnag, and Kokernag to Kishtwar. It is approximately 130 km from Srinagar, and 73 km from Anantnag. The scenic route passes through Daksum and offers beautiful views, making the drive enjoyable. However, in winter, the road may be blocked due to heavy snowfall.
Best time to Visit
Spring (April to June)
Spring (April to June) is particularly appealing due to the blooming wildflowers and the melting snow, while summer (July to September) provides clear skies and pleasant temperatures for hiking and other outdoor activities.
Winter months (October to March)
Winter months (October to March) are not recommended for visiting Sinthan Top as the pass is often blocked due to heavy snowfall, making it inaccessible.
